If you like it idyllic and quiet on Mallorca, Sant Elm on the extreme south-western tip of the island is the right place for you. The village with around 400 inhabitants, sometimes also referred to as San Telmo, is located directly on the rugged coast and is framed by the mighty mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana. Sant Elm is mainly accessible via a spectacular, winding road from Andratx via the village of S’Arracó. Getting there is already an experience. The view, greeted by pine trees on arrival in Sant Elm after driving through the tunnel, when suddenly the vastness of the sea becomes visible, is unsurpassable. From Port d´Andratx you can also take a water taxi to Sant Elm. The tranquil coastal town is characterized by typical Mallorquin houses, small hotels and picturesque summer residences that can also be rented as holiday homes. Outside the summer season you almost feel like the last person in the world. An ideal retreat for those seeking peace and quiet, nature lovers and active vacationers.
The peaceful place with the Platja San Telmo or Platja des Geperut a beautiful bay with an approximately 130 meter long, fine sandy section and an additional 50 meter long concrete porch in the southern area of the bay.
Behind the beach promenade on Avenida Jaume I. there are several restaurants, bars and café. Another restaurant, which is also accessible to non-hotel guests, is located in the Universal Hotel Aquamarin on the southern tip of the beach.
The former fishing village was often used by pirates as a hiding place due to its remote location. Since the advent of tourism in Mallorca, Sant Elm has mainly been visited by travelers from Europe who like to spend their holidays away from mass tourism and often stay longer. Mallorca residents appreciate the tranquility and the wild and romantic nature of the Tramuntana Mountains.
Water sports enthusiasts can do diving courses, snorkeling trips and boat tours at the local diving school Scuba Activa at Plaça de Mossèn Sebastià Grau. If you want to explore the water world yourself, you can also rent the necessary equipment. Since the island of Sa Dragonera is under nature protection, numerous sea creatures cavort underwater. Kayaks and motor boats can be rented from Waterbike Rental directly on the beach.
From the beach in Sant Elm you also have a direct view of the offshore, nature-protected island of Sa Dragonera and the smaller island of Es Pantalau. Good swimmers can cover the 750 meters between the westernmost point of Mallorca, Punta Negra, to the nature park island without a boat. The island, which got the name Dragon Island on the one hand from its special shape, on the other hand from the lizard species that live here, is a paradise for Eleanor’s falcons and coral gulls.
To the south of Sant Elm, the last houses are joined by the picturesque bay of Cala Conills, which has its own small beach. In the sheltered bay you are often alone even in midsummer. From here the pure wilderness of the unique Tramuntana Mountains opens up.
